NVIDIA Isaac GR00TN1: First AI Robot Development Foundation Model

Image

NVIDIA recently announced NVIDIA Isaac GR00TN1 at GTC 2025. It is the world's first open, fully customizable AI robot foundation model, providing generalized thinking and technology for humanoid robots. The technology was developed in collaboration with NVIDIA, Google DeepMind, and Disney Research.

GR00TN1 Features

Dual System Architecture: GR00TN1 has a dual system architecture based on human cognitive principles. "System 1" is a fast-thinking model that reflects fast reflection and intuition, and "System 2" is a slow-thinking model for intentional and systematic decision-making.

Vision Language Model: System 2 sets action plans by analyzing the environment and instructions through a visual language model. System 1 translates these plans into precise, continuous robotic movements.

Leveraging synthetic data: System 1 is trained with human demonstration data and large 量 of synthetic data generated on the NVIDIA Omniverse platform.

Application of GR00TN1

GR00TN1 can be easily generalized to common tasks such as grabbing and moving objects, or moving objects with one or two hands. It can also perform multi-level tasks that require a combination of long-term context and common technology. These features can be applied to various fields, such as logistics, packaging, and inspection.

Developers and researchers can train GR00TN1 after it is tailored to a specific robot or task. NVIDIA provided the GR00TN1 dataset as an open source, allowing developers to utilize it for robot training.

cooperation and future planning

NVIDIA is working with Google DeepMind and Disney Research to develop an open-source physical engine called Newton. Newton is designed to help robots handle complex tasks more precisely. The engine is based on the NVIDIA Warp framework and is compatible with Google DeepMind's MuJoCo and NVIDIA Isaac Lab.

Newton will launch later this year, with Disney Research planning to develop the next generation of entertainment robots. NVIDIA is also offering a DGX Spark private AI supercomputer to extend the capabilities of GR00TN1.

These technological advances are expected to increase the efficiency of robot development and contribute to expanding the utilization of robots in various industries. NVIDIA's GR00TN1 will establish itself as an important technology that is ushering in a new heyday of robot development.
